I’m delighted to feature in a Literally Stories re-run this morning with a piece of flash fiction called ‘A Life on Track’.
The email from Literally Stories stating that ‘A Life on Track’ had been selected for a re-run was an unlooked-for boon. I was also asked to give a mini-interview about the writing process behind the piece; no author worth their salt needs a second invitation for that kind of self-aggrandisement!
Anyway, I hope ‘A Life on Track’ has weathered well over the years (unlike its unfortunate protagonist).
Read it here.

Matthew Richardson is a writer of short stories. His work has featured in Gold Dust magazine, Literally Stories, Near to the Knuckle, McStorytellers, Penny Shorts, Soft Cartel, Whatever Keeps the Lights On, and Shooter magazine. He is a PhD student at the University of Dundee, a lucky husband, and a proud father.
Not necessarily in that order
One of your first stories I read on their website, and well worth the re-run! đ Well done for bringing it new recognition.

Thanks, Tom. I’ll gratefully take your word for that. I can’t bear to read anything I get published, so the thought of casting my eyes over something I wrote that long ago is anathema to me!

Matthew: When I click on âhere,â I get the comments and questions to you and your answers, but no story. How can I find it?
Congratulations anywayâsuch a nice tribute!

They’ve set it up rather strangely, Annie! If you click the link and then scroll down to where it reads ‘A Life on Track’ and click on that, it takes you through to the original story. Alternatively https://literallystories2014.com/2016/10/13/a-life-on-track-by-matthew-richardson/
The link could have been clearer! Loved your piece on Michelle Obama by the way!

Ok. I read it. Chugged its way right into my viscera. Donât know how you, a clearly delightful person, are able to tap into such dark placesâthough I know we all possess themâand then transform them with such artistry into tales that are both riveting and evoke empathy for your complex, tortured souls. Amazing!

Thanks so much Annie. We’ll put it down to a vivid imagination rather than any undiagnosed condition!

Fantastic story! I really liked that. If you write shorter flash, maybe check out Parhelion Literary Magazine sometime? I’m features editor over there, but I also read some short stories and flash, and we don’t always get enough really good flash. I think our subs open up again after our summer issue goes up.

Thanks Rebecca. Just checked out Parhelion Magazine and there looks like there is some really excellent content on there. Thanks so much for the heads-up for when the subs open up again. I will start rustling something up to submit!

Bravo, Matthew, that was tremendous! My past life flashed before my eyes, like an Intercity 125 đ Wow, wow and wow again!

Thanks so much, Chris! For me it was the platform at Edinburgh South Gyle into Edinburgh Waverley. Grey commuter faces looking like they would rather be anywhere else on this earth!
