A couple of hiking haiku today…

Mud
Mud around the legs
Of the foot-worn, wind-weathered
Stile. A way across.

More
Shadow-gullied and
Cornice-crusted. White on black.
More snow on the way.

You’ve captured nature’s fleeting moments beautifully, from muddy stiles to imminent snowfall — a vivid journey in just a few words.

We all, at times, need a way across—with more snow on the way.
I love how these two haiku complement each other. It also gives a glimpse into typical Scottish weather.

Haha they certainly speak to the usual dreich weather, David (although it is lovely today). Many thanks as always.

The two haiku are beautifully done.
Wind and wet are fine, but all that snow is too much for me!

Thanks Chris. Yes you moved in the right direction for the avoidance of snow!

I liked them both, but “More” delivered more than my sense of what a haiku could achieve.

I love the cute stile — a poem in itself and that phrase ‘cornice-crusted’ ; clever and apt —

Thanks John. One has more danger than the other, but both are likely to be unpleasant in the winter! 😆
