A couple of nighttime haiku for the festive season…

Star
Shimmering village,
waterborne under star shards.
Wind-tugged reflection.

Sky
Those wild, lonely places –
nightcloaked, high above the din.
Looking to dark skies.

Ah, solitude! It’s many a poet’s companion. I’m happy to live in a small village, far away from the din of the city. You’ve captured this spirit well in both haiku. Well done, Matthew!
Thanks David. Happy Christmas to you and yours!
Matthew, I believe you have mastered this form. So perfect for the solstice.

These haiku hold a beautiful stillness.
“waterborne under star shards” especially stayed with me — it feels both fragile and vast at the same time.
Thank you for sharing this quiet moment.
